The Progress Of The Movie

Creator Ben Bocquelet confirmed as recently as late 2025 that the movie is still being worked on, but the story and script have been heavily revised from the original 2021 pitch The original premise involving a "super fan" opening a portal to the real world has reportedly been abandoned for a "new angle".

The film is currently "under debate" at Warner Bros. Its full greenlight for final production reportedly depends on the continued streaming success of the revival series, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball. Because the original 2021 plans were delayed and the script has since been completely scrapped and rewritten with a "new angle," the project effectively has to be pitched and approved all over again. Warner Bros. is using the viewership data from The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball on Hulu and HBO Max to decide if there is enough demand to justify a multi-million dollar budget for a movie.

Encouraged By Creators To Make The Movie Happen

Bocquelet has encouraged fans to stream the new episodes as much as possible, as high engagement is the primary tool he has to "win" the debate and convince the studio to move forward. Even watching on Disney+ still counts toward the potential future of the movie Because Disney+ and Hulu are essentially integrated for bundle subscribers in the United States, Warner Bros. Discovery (the owner of Gumball) receives the viewership data from both platforms.
