Definitive Monsters, Inc. Watch Order Tip Plus Sow Review

Before we get to the development process, I want to share my rating for Monsters at Work and the best way to watch the franchise films.

Show Review

I give this show 5 out of 5 stars. Here is why:

  • 1st Star: The Humor. The show is hilarious, even during moments off the laugh floor. One of my favorite moments is when Mike asks Rose, "You sure you're not Roz?" and Rose replies, "We're completely different."

  • 2nd Star: The Theme. While the original movie theme was okay, the show’s theme is much catchier because it features vocals, not just instruments.

  • 3rd Star: Motivational Lessons. Many shows focus on right vs. wrong, but this one emphasizes motivation, which is a great addition.

  • 4th Star: Run Time. It is rare for a Pixar or Disney Channel cartoon to commit to 30-minute episodes for teenagers, and it works perfectly here.

  • 5th Star: Action vs. Appropriateness. The action remains engaging while keeping the "hitting stuff" and language to a minimum, making it appropriate for ages 9 and up.

Recommended Watch Order

  1. Monsters University: This shows them in college and establishes the events that led them to work for Monsters, Inc.

  2. Monsters, Inc.: This serves as the bridge. It covers their time working there, the arrest of Mr. Waternoose, and the transition from scream power to laugh power. The ending—where Mike makes a kid laugh—connects perfectly to the show.

  3. Monsters at Work: This should be third. The ending of Season 1 mirrors the energy of the film’s finale, creating a perfect link between the movie and the show.

The ending of Monsters Inc shows mike making the kid laugh with him telling his joke inside then this is the big connection to the show cuz the ending of season 1 shows the same thing but outside the door on the laugh floor has these lines and scene just like the movie.

Sulley: "Nice job, Mikey. You filled your quota on the first kid of the day."
Mike: "You know, only someone with great comedic timing could produce this much energy in one shot."
Sulley: "Uh-huh, and the fact that laughter has ten times the energy of scream had nothing to do with it
Celia: "ooh googlie bear come here you"
Mike: "smootzie pooh"

Then instead of showing what Mike and Celia are doing it shows what Sulley was doing instead. That's why Monsters At Work should be 3rd in line. This Episode Here is the one im talking about Episode title is its laughter their after.

A Note on the Future

I am writing this now because if Pixar develops a new film that takes place after the events of Monsters at Work, it creates an opportunity to introduce new characters based on the established story. If they were to make a film that takes place before Mike went to college, it might mess up the franchise continuity since the characters we love haven't met yet.

Pixar is officially developing a new film, and it is in the very early stages of production, meaning a premiere is likely several years away. Information regarding the film's status comes from an exclusive interview with Pixar's Chief Creative Officer, Pete Docter. Since the studio's pipeline is already heavily booked, fans speculate the movie will land around 2030 or 2031.
