Man accused of choking coworker after she got promotion he wanted
Jacob Smith, the McDonald’s employee recently injured in a hot oil attack, is expressing deep gratitude for the support he’s received. The 20-year-old Smith was attacked at the restaurant where he works, according to the Yuba City Police Department. According to the probable cause statement, Mallory arrived at the restaurant at about 10:30 a.m. and found the victim in the office of the store. He entered the office, locked the door behind him and told the woman he was going to kill her. He grabbed her by the neck, wrestled her to the ground and continued to strangle her until she went limp. The probable cause statement said Mallory that only stopped when he heard the store's general manager unlocking the door. When the general manager entered the office, the woman was able to get to her feet. She and the general manager rushed out of the office and locked Mallory inside while calling the police.When officers arrived, Mallory told them that he had applied for the promotion but did not get it. He told them he knew the victim was working that day and intended to kill her. He said he would have killed her if the general manager had not intervened. Mallory is being held on a $500,000 bond. This is not the first time Mallory has been charged with choking a woman. In 2013, when Mallory was 20, he was charged with first-degree assault for sneaking into a women's bathroom on the St. Louis Community College-Meramec campus in Kirkwood and choking a female student.
The student screamed, and an employee ran in and restrained Mallory until police arrived. The attack happened in April 2013. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for that attack and was incarcerated in Missouri state prisons from December 2014 through October 2022.
Arrest made in early morning shooting near The Social bar in Corpus Christi
A 27-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an early morning shooting near a South Padre Island Drive bar that left two people hospitalized. According to the Corpus Christi Police Department, Jesus Lozano was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the shooting investigation. Officers were dispatched to the 4500 block of South Padre Island Drive around 2 a.m. Monday after receiving reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they located a crime scene and determined that a 24-year-old man had already transported himself to a local hospital for treatment. A second victim, a 26-year-old man, was found at a separate location suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital by medics.
Due to the nature of the incident, detectives with the department's Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and interviewed witnesses. During the investigation, Lozano was detained and taken to the police department's Main Station for a formal interview. Investigators later determined that a disturbance had occurred between the three men before the shooting. Following the investigation, Lozano was taken into custody and charged. Police said all parties involved are known to one another and that the shooting was an isolated incident. The conditions of the two victims have not been released The investigation remains active and ongoing.
